Which for a brand new blogger is incredibly difficult to do. As it is so easy to miss out on critical things.

1. Ad Networks To Make Money Blogging

One of the easiest ways to get started with making money with your blog is by using ads.
There are many different ad networks for bloggers, such as:
- Google AdSense
- Mediavine (25,000 sessions per month minimum required)
- Media.net
- Ezoic (min. 10,000 pageviews per month)
- AdThrive (min. 100,000 pageviews per month)
- And more
Using ads to make money on your blog can be as simple as applying to one of these networks. Then once you are accepted, you can add the code to your blog. And this will populate ads on your site.
Then depending on the ad network you join. You will either be paid, just for showing the ads to your audience (PPV – pay per view). Or in some cases you may only be paid when people click on these ads (PPC – pay per click).
Using Ads For Blog Income Can Be Passive

Once your ads are set up on your blog the main way to generate money is to drive traffic to the pages that have these ads displayed on them.
Because, getting traffic to your blog is something you’ll likely already be doing anyways. This method of income can become passive, in a way.
Like most methods of making money blogging you are dependent on how much traffic you can drive to your blog. And this is directly related to how much money you can earn.
Because of how passive ads are, you will be earning, rather little from displaying ads on your blog, unless you get massive amounts of traffic.
Whilst you can make a lot of money from ads if you manage to get accepted into a high-paying ad network like Mediavine. You should never rely on just this one method since it’s highly related to your traffic. Which can fluctuate from month to month.
And also the fact that you likely won’t be able to make a full time income just on ads. Unless you are earning hundreds of thousands of pageviews every month.
If your blog is small, just starting out, and you only get a few thousand pageviews per month. You will likely not make a huge amount from ads. If anything, as you’ll likely be stuck with Google AdSense’s low-paying network.
Overall, using ads on your blog to make money is an extremely easy method to set up. And requires very little effort, outside of your usual traffic generation.
Because of this, it’s easy on an entry level for new blogs to get started with. And there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to get approved even with a brand new blog.
If you sign up for Google AdSense. You will need to make sure you have the basic setup of a blog done first before you apply. This usually means a few different blog posts, and the legal requirements for things like privacy pages, disclosures, terms and conditions.
Other than that, you shouldn’t have much problem getting signed up for something like Google AdSense or Media.net.

2. Use Affiliate Marketing To Monetize Your Blog

Next up, let’s talk about how you can use affiliate marketing to make money blogging.
If you’re not familiar with what affiliate marketing is. It’s where you promote and suggest other people’s products.
And if someone purchases this particular product you’re promoting through your affiliate link. Then you receive a percentage of that sale, as a commission.
Affiliate Marketing Is Beginner Friendly
Affiliate marketing is beginner-friendly to start off with on a new blog. Plus it’s definitely a much more powerful income generator compared to ads.
Usually what you’ll want to do is apply for different affiliate programs. Some examples of good ones to start off with are places like:
You’ll also find more specific affiliate programs for dedicated products or you can sometimes find lists of affiliate programs you can join for even more ideas.
Once you’ve joined an affiliate program, you will get special links that you need to add to your content in order to be credited for sales and clicks.
But you’ll need more strategy than just slapping some affiliate links into your blog posts to make this work. Since your affiliate links need to be woven into your content in a way that gets people to click.
So, you’ll want to take some affiliate marketing training to get a solid strategy you can follow. This way you won’t be wasting time doing things the wrong way and can make money blogging faster.
You can even take affiliate marketing beyond just blog posts. As it can be used inside digital products, courses and emails.
Just remember you must disclose when your content contains affiliate links. Otherwise you could find yourself with a nasty fine or worse.
You can find out exactly how to add automatic affiliate disclosures to all your blog posts here.
Using Affiliate Marketing To Make Money Blogging Can Be Passive But Requires Traffic

It’s worth noting that this is another method of making money blogging, that is dependent on your traffic. In terms of how much traffic you get, and the quality of that traffic.
Saying that though, if you are sending thousands of pages to a specific blog post. And the affiliate product you are promoting on that page is NOT closely related or helpful to that blog post…
Then it’s incredibly unlikely you will make any sales.
Remember what I said about needing a strategy!
Affiliate Marketing can be considered a passive method to make money blogging.
Because after you have set it up and working with the initial effort that you put in. Once it starts converting you can usually leave it to its own devices.
As it should regularly convert into sales for you, providing you continue receiving traffic to that blog post.
Affiliate Marketing is definitely one of my favorite ways to make money blogging, as you can set up from day one of your blog.
And not only are you making an income from this, but you can also use it to help your audience with products that you would naturally suggest anyways.

3. Offering Services On Your Blog To Make Money Blogging

What if you offered a service to your audience? Where you would help them out in a more direct manner compared to writing blog posts and tutorials.
Adding paid services on your blog is often a much faster way to make money blogging.
However, it has some strong drawbacks that make it not ideal for brand new bloggers to start off with.
Firstly, it depends on your niche. Some niches may not have a particular service that they can easily offer.
The second thing is that with a service, it’s much more hands on.
Meaning it’s a less passive way to make money blogging. Not to mention it can be quite stressful and complicated to set everything up. So you can make sure that you are providing a high-quality service and ensure you do get paid by your clients.
Offering services to make money blogging can be a solution if you have a low amount of traffic. Because it relies more on selling your services to a handful of people.
In comparison to affiliate marketing or ads. Where you may need thousands of visitors before you see any conversions to make any money.
If you are interested in selling services on your blog. You’ll want to consider things such as a payment system like:
As well as legal templates to keep everything legit and everyone responsible.
4. Sponsored Posts & Content For Monetization

Finally, another method you could use is called sponsored posts. And this is where you specifically work with brands and get paid to write a review of one of their products.
Overall, writing sponsored posts can seem much like affiliate marketing. But there are usually different restrictions with it since you are working directly with another company or brand.
Getting sponsored posts can be tricky for new bloggers, and it’s definitely a more advanced way to make money blogging. As often it requires you to already have an engaged audience and followers.
Since no one wants to pay for a sponsored post that doesn’t get seen and actually make any sales.
Sponsored posts are usually written by yourself. And should be honest with your own opinion and unique experiences despite getting paid.
Some brands may even give you strict guidelines of what they expect you to write about. Like the key points you need to cover and deadlines.
If you decide to do sponsored posts to monetize your blog. You’ll need to actually disclose that you are getting paid to write sponsored content.
You’ll likely also want to make sure you’ve covered the legal side with an actual contact template you can use to ensure brands pay you and don’t request things that they shouldn’t. Like requiring your review to be positive.
Also, to find opportunities for you to get sponsored. You can look at some of the places suggested here.
5. Selling Digital Products To Make Money Blogging
Next up, you could consider selling your own digital products on your blog to make money blogging.
Whilst what digital products you can sell will depend on your niche and blog topics. There are almost always some options you can consider.
Creating and selling a digital product can be a low-cost and easily scalable way to make money with your blog. Since you are not dealing with physically creating or delivering items.
Digital products you could sell on your blog, might be:
- Ebooks
- Case studies
- Printable worksheets, checklists, coloring pages etc
- Stock images
- Excel sheets
- Templates
- Planners
For example The She Approach sells a blog income tracker for bloggers to manage their finances easier.
If you decide to sell digital products, you’ll want to find a way to get these paid products to your buyers.
Such as SendOwl, which can make the delivery of your digital products automatic. Whilst they also have options to create your own affiliate program as well.
Having some templates to help you start can also speed up the process tremendously. Like:
- 30-Page Ebook Template
- Complete Blogger Template Toolkit (ebook, planners, opt-ins and more)
- Printables by number (course + templates)
6. Physical Products To Make Money With Your Blog

The next level up from creating digital products. Is obviously selling physical products instead.
If your blog is more hands on. Then you might want to sell things like an online shop would and have actual items delivered to your buyers.
This is particularly true for blogs that focus on crafts. As you might want to sell the crafts that you make on top of your other blog monetization strategies.
Or if you want to sell custom prints. (Print on demand suppliers are incredibly useful for this.)
One of the most common ways of doing this is setting up an Etsy shop and redirecting from your blog to there.
But some bloggers will create a dedicated shop on their blog using platforms like Shopify and WooCommerce.
Oh and it’s worth noting you can use these tools for digital products as well. They just require a little bit more effort to setup before you can use them to make money blogging.
In some cases depending on what you’re trying to sell you may even be able to go down the route of dropshipping.
With dropshipping you are simply selling physical items on your blog. Then once a visitor buys an item. They are then passed over to your dropshipping partner. Who deals with sending those items out for you.
This way, you are not having to deal with purchasing stock and organizing things like delivery.
In some cases though, it might just be simpler to use affiliate marketing instead. It really depends on what you want to do.
7. Online Courses
What about creating a more step-by-step course for your audience to learn from?
Creating an online course can be a highly profitable way to make money with your blog. Because they are valuable and easily accessible people will often pay more for a course than things like ebooks.
Plus because of their digital nature, they can often be scaled up easily without much extra work.
This means you could be selling far less of these per month. And already be making more money than the sum of the easier methods on this list. Like ads and affiliate marketing.
But courses are time-intensive and require lots of work to setup initially.
Also depending on the topic of your course. It might not be something you can create once and let it work on a passive basis. There’s a high chance you’ll need to be going back and updating your course as time goes on.
To setup an online course to grow your income with. You can use a platform such as Teachable to present your videos and information into individual modules. So that people can follow along.
Examples of profitable courses would be:
This email marketing course called Love Your List™ 2.0, this course is a good example of having a huge price ticket because of how much value is packed into it.
Or this Pinterest marketing course. Whilst priced much lower can still bring in a big chunk of income because of how popular, valuable and easy to access it is.

8. Create Live Workshops To Make Money Blogging

If you would prefer a more hands-on approach for teaching people. Then you could use a more free form method by selling live Workshops instead.
Workshops tend to be a live series of videos that follow a regular schedule. You can sell access to these to a set number of buyers or unlimited depending on your preferences.
Live Workshops can be a fun way to make money blogging if you love doing live videos. And can even be viewed as more valuable to buyers because there is more fear of missing out with live content.
But they do also require a lot more proactive effort and technical setup. Plus they aren’t especially friendly for more introverted bloggers to make money blogging.
9. Premium Memberships For Recurring Income
Ever heard of membership sites? These are a bit different in the way that they usually require a monthly subscription for your audience to get the resources included.
Making paid memberships an amazing way to get recurring income for your blog.
For a membership you could combine resources like courses, digital products, videos, live feedback and more. Into a specific resource library that your audience needs to pay for monthly to keep access to.
The thing is, you would have to be adding continuous new value to the membership. In order to maintain your subscribers.
So it’s not a way to make money blogging passively or beginner blogger friendly either.
But the idea is achievable and is definitely profitable to make money blogging with. As there are many different blogs out there that do this.
For example, Carly Campbell has monthly high-converting Pinterest templates and each month, you receive 10 new templates from your membership.
As well as access to a paid Pinterest Mastermind group on Facebook. That allows you to ask her questions more directly about Pinterest.
10. Virtual Summits To Collaborate With Bloggers + Make Money

Ever been to a live summit?
They are usually packed with tons of value!
If you are not familiar with the idea, virtual summits are basically a series of online video conferences presented by several experts on their topics.
Usually live virtual summits are free to attend, but often the live videos are only available from a limited time of say 24-48 hours.
After this time expires viewers no longer have access to the videos. Unless they upgrade to a paid ticket that gives them unlimited access.
Because of the limited time the videos are available and the amount of value provided. Many will upgrade to a paid ticket. So they can have longer access to the content.
Which is how you can turn a free online summit into something that makes your blog money.
It’s also worth noting. That many of those who present at the summit will often also mention a related paid product of their own.
Meaning that they might make even more income from additional sales.
Some examples of successful live summits out there are those like the Rebel Boss Summit that focuses on teaching other bloggers how to make their first successful digital product.
11. Directly Selling Ad Space & Promotions
Another way you can make money blogging is by offering specific partnerships with brands and clients. Such as you could offer specific spots and places on your blog to promote a particular brand or product.
You could set your own prices for this and make it super profitable.
However, it is more manual than joining ad networks. As you are reliant on finding your own clients to fill up spots.
And not to mention actually create a desirable blog that brands and companies will actually want to buy specific spots. Or get you to promote them directly to their audience.
This isn’t something you can do with a brand new blog.
You’ll need something with a big following and tons of traffic already.
Sadly, this takes time!
But it is definitely a more advanced blog monetization method that you can use to diversify your income further down the line.
12. Podcasts

Like talking and doing interviews? Well, getting onto podcasts can be a good way to increase your blog income.
As being asked to do a live interview or talk on a popular podcast depending on your authority. Could result in some paid work.
However, it is far more common for podcasts to be a way to indirectly help you to make money blogging. As often podcasts can help expose your content to new audiences.
This could result in things like:
- New visitors who could end up checking your blog and buying from you.
- More traffic to your blog for more affiliate sales and ad income.
Making money blogging this way, is definitely something you’ll need to do later on when your blog is more established though.
13. Conferences

Conferences like Podcasts, are a more advanced blogging strategy to make money. For when you are an established blogger that is seen as an authority.
If you are recognized as an authority in your niche, you may find yourself invited to conferences, as well as podcasts.
Conferences have the same benefits as podcasts but require more effort on your part in terms of getting to the location and being able to speak in front of larger audiences.
However, with conferences you may find that you will be paid to do some of them on top of indirect profits you might gain.
Importance of Having A Diverse Blog Income Strategy

When figuring out how to make money blogging. You should always try to expand to as many different strategies as possible.
As having many different income streams can make your blog less susceptible to sudden decreases in income from one method.
Blog income diversity is the key to a long-term successful blog!
Afterall, it’s never a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket. Especially if this is related to your income for paying the bills and putting food on the table.
Because of this, when you first start a blog, you’ll want to focus on the easier and quicker methods first. Before you move on to more advanced techniques that require more effort to make money blogging.
Recap On Ways To Make Money Blogging That Still Work In 2022

Depending on how much time and effort, you have available to you to input.
If you’re looking to make money blogging quickly. One of the best ways to do this is by promoting your own services on your blog.
As they can be high paying and only require a small amount of traffic to start getting clients.
But if you’re looking for more passive income…
Affiliate marketing is where you should start.
Although this can be slower to build up when monetizing your blog. As you will require more traffic before you will earn money with this blog monetization method.
If you would also like to use ads on your blog to make money. Then it certainly won’t hurt to set them up. Just be aware you likely won’t make much if anything at all. Until you are getting 10,000 pageviews per month and above.
Honestly, I found Google Ads to be a waste of time. Because I was never able to hit their ridiculously high payout threshold and they pay so little compared to other networks.
Just food for thought though.
So, look at ad income as mostly just a supplemental way to make money blogging. As when first starting out affiliate marketing is where your primary focus should be. Alongside growing your traffic.
Once you have gotten these monetization strategies mastered.
You can then switch to more advanced and time consuming methods to diversify your income. Such as creating your own products, courses and things like live workshops.
So, tell me – which of these methods do you think you’ll use? Can you think of any I’ve missed? Let me know in the comments below:
