22 | Social Media Auto Post & Schedule Plugin – Social Booster

Note: Not all features are currently in place yet. As this WordPress plugin has recently been republished. So currently, at the time of writing many features are “Coming Soon”.
The Social Media Auto Post & Schedule plugin, also known as Social Boost by RexTheme. Is a WordPress plugin that aims to help bloggers manage their social media posting with minimal fuss. Right within your WordPress dashboard and post editor.
Overall, the initial setup of connecting your social networks might seem a little daunting and technical. As it requires you to setup the App API settings for the social networks you want to use. However, there are instructions on how to do this and documentation. Which can be easily found within the plugin itself.
Although the setup is a little bit technical. This is because this WordPress plugin leaves no sneaky self-promotion messages. Like adding the text “Shared via Social Booster” to your Facebook posts or Tweets.
In fact, this is what one of my Twitter posts looked like when published through this plugin:

Compared to similar plugins with an easier setup. That often use a social media account different to your own. Which is why such snippets of text get added. And also why it is sometimes obvious you are using an automation tool to publish.
Currently this social media plugin allows you to publish your posts straight from the WordPress dashboard. Most of the other features listed below are currently coming soon.
Features:-
- Gutenberg compatible
- Post manually to social media networks
- Supports Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr
- Post scheduling
- Shared post analytics
- Instant sharing
- Custom message options
- Some features will likely be limited to the paid premium version, which ranges from $79.99 to $149

Social Media Plugins To Avoid
When I first started researching this list there were many more plugins. Throughout the course of writing this post, I slowly condensed the list. By removing those that hadn’t been updated in a while. Or simply did not have good ratings or features.
In addition, to those though. There are some plugins I wanted to point out you should avoid. As they have particular problems that could cause you issues. That are not quite obvious unless you’ve gone through the trouble of trying them out.
Social Warfare
The Social Warfare plugin has been known to cause problems for many users breaking their blogs. I personally haven’t had any issues myself with this plugin. And whilst this may just be a compatibility issue with certain themes or plugins. This didn’t use to be the case. What’s changed I cannot really say.
But during March this year (2019). The Social Warfare plugin had a day-zero vulnerability that allowed attackers to inject malicious JavaScript code.
With this in mind, and the other frequent issues with this plugin over the past year. I no longer feel comfortable recommending them. And have thus removed this plugin from the list of plugin ideas above. I’ll also be reviewing my other posts that mention this plugin and likely switching to the AddToAny plugin instead.
Sumo Social Media Plugin For WordPress
This plugin is heavy and adds lots of weight to your blog. Which can significantly impact on your page loads and
Easy Social Share Buttons
This plugin by Idiom Interaction which you can find on WordPress.org. Is not the same as the plugin on CodeCanyon that has an identical name. So make sure to avoid this version as it is quite outdated.
Share+ Social Media Plugin For WordPress
Whilst this plugin has 5 different button Themes and Google Analytics integration. It costs $13 from CodeCanyon and it hasn’t been updated since Nov 2013. Making it extremely outdated.
Social Sharing By Danny
This plugin has not many options for customization. Plus it has not been updated in over a year!
Social Media Feather
You should avoid using this social media plugin on your blog. As it seems to be no longer maintained. Since it hasn’t been updated for over 2 years.
Kiwi Social Share
This plugin may have possible vulnerabilities in its code. That could make your blog prone to getting hacked. So you should avoid using it. After all, there are plenty of other options to choose from without this risk.
How To Pick The Best Social Media Plugin For You
So, you have 21 social media plugins for WordPress to choose from. But how do you pick the best one for you?
Consider These Important Factors Before Deciding On Your Social Media Plugin For WordPress
Well, it’s really a process of weeding out the ones that do not work for you. Based on what you need for your blog. You should start off by thinking about which social media buttons you want. As these vary the most. I would suggest a plugin that at least includes Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest by default. But you need to consider where your audience mostly hangs out!
Another important factor to consider is the responsiveness of the social media plugin. As well as any buttons or features it adds. Whatever features you add to your blog. You need to make sure they do not cause issues when browsing your blog using a mobile or tablet device.
After considering the social media buttons and responsiveness. The next thing you should consider is placement options. Do you have a specific place you want your social media buttons to show? If so, make sure the plugins you are considering include these settings.
You’ll also want to consider what styles your social media plugin for WordPress has. As well as any additional options available. Before finally considering the different price options you might have. As many plugins have a free and premium tier for features. You might have to pay a small amount to get some of the features you want.
Oh, and speaking of prices. Please note that any prices mentioned here. Were accurate at the time of writing but may have changed since. If you spot any changes, let me know and I will be happy to update it.

Try Different Plugins & Monitor Your Website’s Speed
It is worth noting, that you’ll likely have to try a few different plugins to get one that works best for you. So don’t be afraid to experiment, especially with the free versions of the plugins.
You should also consider doing some website speed tests. Both with and without your social media plugins installed. To see if your choices make any significant impact
Too Many Social Media Buttons Can Be A Bad Thing
It is worth noting that too many buttons can be a bad thing.
Why? Because there is something called the Paradox Choice. Where research studies have shown that giving people too many choices. Can result in them being less likely to make a choice. For example. Having more than 3 buttons could result in less people clicking and sharing your blog posts. Which is totally the opposite effect you want, right?
So whilst there are plugins in this list that add 100’s of social media buttons. It is unlikely you’ll use them all. As you’ll want to stick to using no more than 3 buttons. In particular, this could be where the AddToAny plugin can really shine. As it’s universal blue + icon could serve as any social media network. Whilst only giving the visual sense of a single option.
As you could pick your two most used social media buttons and use the third option as the + icon button. To cover any other options a visitor might be looking for.
Google+ Is Being Shutdown So Expect Changes
At this point in time. You can ignore the fact that some social media plugins for WordPress have an option for Google+. Since it is being shut down, this extra option is rather useless now. So you can just ignore it. And expect it to be removed at some point from each plugin that currently still includes it.
The Best Social Media Plugin For WordPress
Everyone has different opinions on what plugin is the best. But the best plugin for you will be one that:-
- Includes all the social media buttons you need that your audience will use
- Responsive & works well with mobile and tablet devices
- Lightweight
- Affordable for your budget or even free
- Includes any other useful features you need. Like Click to Tweet, analytics & button positions
And don’t forget to experiment. As you might be surprised as to which plugin fits your needs.
Finally, make sure you check these other mistakes that could be affecting your social shares. As they can help maximize the benefits you get from using one of the plugins covered here.
So which of these social media plugins for WordPress will you use for your blog?
If you found this blog post useful then please consider taking a few seconds to share it to your favorite social media platform!

Thanks for sharing such amazing social media plugins, I was searching for my blog because I’m doing viral blogging
Hey Austin,
Thanks for the comment! I’m glad you found this blog post on social media plugins for WordPress useful
Awesome content. I was confused about the social media button but your post gives me a great solution. I bookmarked it for future reference.
I’m glad it could help! 🙂
Great article thanks for sharing. Just wondering how these compare to what’s already in Jetpack? can you share something more same like that
Hey Abeeha,
I actually wrote a detailed post on all the modules Jetpack has. Including the Social Media Sharing buttons. You can find the post here. And if you look for module #25 there is a section on the sharing buttons.
I did not include Jetpack here because their buttons are extremely limited compared to the other free plugin options on this list. There aren’t many options in it sadly.
Hope this helps!
The best list I’ve seen and so useful. Many thanks!
You can also add the Social Stream Designer WordPress plugin. Using it, you can add your social media post on your website with attractive layouts.
Thanks for commenting! I’ll keep this in mind when I next update the post
